Maritza has sent some information about how the first project is doing. This is so exciting!! The students are passionate about it. They get to the class always on time, they want to spend recess working on their project, overall they are super excited about sharing their knowledge on their native people with their buddies at Coe.
Martiza is excited about using email to check the students work. That's a first!
Check Maritza's entry from Sept. 25th. http://www.tinfa.org/blogger/fsm/
We are sorting out the emails, and the email matching between the 2 schools. Several bounced back. Martiza and Nohora are willing to give a try to Gaggle (www.gaggle.net) in order to retain some control of the work of the students, so we will.
News like this makes it ALL worth it!

Kevin (Seattle) and Nohora/Maritza (Bogota) are exchanging class lists, matching students. Students will now be able to contact their buddies through email.
I have explored Gaggled and created a "new school" (with Jeff's generous authorization at Gaggle).
Kevin and his class are planning on using Gaggle this year.
I am looking at it, with Fundacion Santa Maria in mind. It would permit teachers to control the flow of information, be able to blog/chat/email/create profiles from the same software.
From one day of working with it, creating a class structure and navigating, the user interface does not feel very intuitive. Thinking that it is also not localized in Spanish, I am not sure it the right tool for Fundacion Santa Maria.
I'll work with it for another round, before turning the page on it though.

Kevin's class has started the new year. The first project that his class will send to Bogota is an introduction art document, the center piece being a self portrait, and the surounding being "what makes me happy, what is important". The class will have that ready by Sept 25th. (not sure if they will send those by email or by slow mail - hopefully by email).
He will then start the Navite american studies, and expects that his students will have questions to ask their Colombian counterparts.
SantaMaria provided its list of students. Kevin will do the matching with his class.

Maritza, Nora and I had an excellent webcam conference today! I met Nora who is the computer and art teacher. She is excited about the projects and will team up with Maritza on our partnership. This is an ideal team, with a content person, and a technology person. It should work great.
We've gone through Fundacion Santa Maria's first blog. Here it is: http://www.tinfa.org/blogger/fsm/ . Very exciting!
The first project for this quarter (the last quarter of the school year for the students of Santa Maria who are on a Feb. to Nov. calendar year) will be a booklet for each student to present him/herself, and some of their relationships to the native tribes that they have met through a field trip this month.
The students will send their booklets by September 25th.
Each student at FSM already has an email, and Nora will send those to us.

Interesting read, related to Computer Kiosks project analysis around the world.
http://www.gfusa.org/technology_center/village_computing/collaboration_research/
What I take from this: micro finance business loans as a solution to self sustainability, the shift in power in regards to IT (governemnet is not any longer able to control, and the private sector needs to be involved).
Overall, this is a great document to get back to, and dig in.

It is the start of school in Seattle, and it is the start of school for TINFA as well.
It was an amazingly good energy day today. 3 major things to note:
-Phebe and Margarita talked to the PTA chair of Stevens who seems interested in supporting a TINFA project.
-I met with Allison, and she's all up for a dinner at her house next month, with awesome fundraising goal.
-Deepak contacted Ruth for working with some schools in India.
Whouwou. positive day for TINFA!
Earlier during the week, Kevin and I met, to discuss the curriculum. We tried to get Maritza, but the RED was down at la foundacion, so only had a brief phone conversation.
Last week, karen, Maritza and I webcamed (after few mistries in the weeks before due to illnesses, and a technical problem with the A+ domain).
I am unsure about the purpose of this blog, and what tone it should have. (insight info, inspirations, facts). the troublesome part is to define who the audience is, and why this is being written.
Overall, it feels that we have a plan for TINFA, and that is exciting. I am getting excited about the HUB idea, and getting additional schools in bogota is looking more like a reality.
